DESIGN, PRODUCTION, EDITING -- Your call
This choice is perfect for a writer who uses a print/publishing source (such as Createspace or Lightning Source), and makes their own decisions regarding distribution but who wants a polished, professional look to their book.
- PAGE and/or COVER DESIGN
We help with your initial planning plus layout and size-of-book suggestions. Cover design is usually based on ideas, photos or art you may already have. Once we begin page design, the layout choices are offered with generous tweaks and response-to-comments from author. Style consistency and typographic correctness is applied throughout your manuscript.
Proofs are in PDF form. The final PDF will be ready for for you to upload to the printer of your choice. You will provide -- printer's specs or links to where we can obtain that information, -- an ISBN, and -- a Library of Congress number.
If you need the original (InDesign, Photoshop) files, we will provide them to you. With professional design (as opposed to a Word document set in Times Roman), you eliminate the perception of "amateur."
We'll offer comments on grammar and punctuation and bring to your attention any places in the manuscript which the reader might find confusing; basically we will act as a fresh eye to your text. This does not include re-structuring chapters or majors re-writes. We assume that you have already finished that stage. (See my BLOG post: "How will your mirror be polished?")
The number of errors that are contained in a "final" manuscript can be startling. They occur because the author and previous editors have been really close to the material, not because they lack competence or skill. It is reassuring to have one, final, under-the-microscope look at your text. And, of course, changes are only made with your approval.
These additional steps are added to Design & Editing. This total package is for the writer who wants to avoid the learning curve involved in bringing their book to the online marketplace.
A. We obtain the copyright; barcode; ISBN; Library of Congress number and pay any relevant fees.

E. Registration of title. You receive a 5-year-long registration of title so it becomes part of the database at Bowker® and appears in Books In Print®.

The contract will contain estimates (may shift if your book length does) of profits you can expect in different markets: Amazon, event sales, and "brick and mortar" bookstores. NOTE: You will realize the highest profit with a softcover book with color cover with black & white interior but we can offer estimates on hardcover and color books as well.
H. You receive royalties on a regular basis and you will be able to buy books in any amount at an excellent, discounted rate.
Get started by sending an email with as much of this information as you have available: subject, title, size of book, estimated number of pages, illustrated or not. Include any questions you might have.
We understand that this might not be a final description.
Please include both an email address and telephone number. Our first step will be to provide you with an estimate and help guide you toward a final product that is profitable for you. NO OBLIGATION, of course.
